Obesity and Infertility

According to research 1/3 of American adult women are obese, defined as BMI greater than 30. Obesity causes a long list of health issues but many women don’t know it can also lead to infertility mainly due to hormonal alterations. Infertility rates of obese women are 3 times higher when compared with women who have a BMI less than 30. If you are overweight and having trouble conceiving, weight loss is the first step you can take in achieving pregnancy. 10% weight loss has been shown to significantly increase chances of pregnancy. Talk to your OBGYN about ways that you can achieve a healthy weight and increase your chances of becoming pregnant.
